Abstract
This paper presents a novel technique for medial axis noise removal.Thc mcthod introduccd rcmovcs thc branches gcncratcd by noisc on an objcct's boundary without losing the fine fcaturcs that are oficn altered or destroyed by current pruning methods. The algorithm consists of an intuitive threshold-based pruning proccss, followcd by an automatic fcaturc rcconstruction phasc that cffcc-tively rccovcrs lost dctails without reintroducing noisc. The result is a tcchniquc that is robust and casy to usc.Tcsts show that thc mcthod works wcll on a varicty of objccts with significant diffcrcnccs in shapc complcxity.topology and noisc charactcristics
